Photo Demolition
I like to take perfectly good photographs and torture them digitally. I rarely combine elements from different photos, every element in these pieces comes from the same photo.
Sometimes I will do a series of dozens of pieces based on the same original shot. Often the original photo is unrecognizable, but sometimes I edit them very lightly. I just keep going until I get something I like…
Here are some examples of my work (use the left and right arrows below to scroll through the gallery)
Floating Birdcages - Look at this picture, a nice photo of some antique birdcages. But look again - nothing is holding them up, they appear to be floating in midair. Do you find that slightly unsettling?
Downtown LA Jewelry Market. Transformed into alien jazz architecture
A beautiful building, downtown LA somewhere
Detail of a New Building near Chinatown LA
Flying low
Blue Ganesh Swirl
Yellow Hollywood Premier
One of the more florid of my Fire Hydrant Series. If you look closely you may still be able to find a fire hydrant in this...
Another Fire Hydrant Series piece. You can still see the hydrant in this one
Another Fire Hydrant Series pic. No hydrant visible
Fishing on the Ganges - this was taken on the Ganges river at Varanasi, India. Fishing for cool photos
This is Ideal. I like the way the floor slopes down to the right. Makes the whole thing just a little off. Slightly annoying? Yes
Frank's House - This is Frank Gehry's house in Santa Monica. It's a very cool house. I made it look a little more like some of the Disney Hall here in LA that he designed.
